Nokia will delay the release of its flagship N900 smartphone to November, Peter Schneider, the head of Maemo marketing at Nokia indicated on Friday. This represents a near one month delay and is apparently due to a wait for the feedback of software developers who received 300 pre-production units. The device will be the first from the world’s top phone maker to use an open-source Linux operating system.
The device will have a 3.5-inch touchscreen with 800Ă—480 resolution in addition to a hardware slide-out keyboard. The N900 is said to have full Flash 9.4 support. It will include a 600MHz ARM Cortex-A8 CPU and a graphics chipset that supports OpenGL ES 2.0 features. GPS, Wi-Fi and 256MB of RAM are onboard, as is HSPA 3G support. There is a 5-megapixel camera and 32GB of onboard storage in addition to a microSDHC slot that allows for the addition of 16GB.
Prices for an unlocked, unsubsidized device are expected to come in around $750. – Electronista
